CNA Multicultural Services was founded in late 2015, in response to the changing nature of the Italian-Australian community in Sydney's South-West. In the Fairfield-Liverpool region, over 25,000 people identify themselves as having Italian ancestry and the Italian language is regarded a community language. They sought to meet the various needs of older members of the community such as social interaction, isolation and language barriers. They also sought to ensure that younger community members had access to learning the Italian language and culture. Marking a decade of service to the local community, CNA used the occasion to raise essential funds for research into motor neurone disease and for those currently receiving treatment. For CNA, this cause is deeply personal. Earlier this year, former member and editor of Allora! Newspaper, Franco Baldi, tragically passed away from MND. Professor Dominic Rowe spoke movingly about the work being done at Macquarie University to uncover the causes of this disease, including potential environmental factors. I thank everyone involved for ten years of service to our community and for their continued compassion, leadership, and dedication to making a difference. CNA has grown into a powerful advocate for inclusion, connection, and cultural pride.
