Ganeshotsava

16 September 2025

The annual Ganeshotsava at the Whitlam Leisure Centre has been a highlight of Liverpool's cultural calendar for 30 years. The festivities bring together thousands of people from across Sydney to celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the symbol of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. This year's celebration was once again a spectacular display of devotion, culture, and community. A special street parade along Macquarie St marked the 30th anniversary. It was a proud reflection of Liverpool that our broader community joined in the dancing, music and singing! We were honoured to be joined by the Premier of New South Wales, as well as my Federal, State and Council colleagues. Their presence reflects the significance of this festival, not just for the Hindu community, but for the wider multicultural fabric of our state. The cultural performances, especially those led by young people, were outstanding and reinforced the importance of passing traditions to future generations. I congratulate Friends of India Australia and the incredible volunteers for their dedication in keeping this festival vibrant and for uniting our community year after year.
