Netball World Youth Cup

23 October 2025

Last month the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup took place in Gibraltar, with Australia beating New Zealand to take it out. Liverpool is so proud that not one or two but five former junior representatives from the Liverpool City Netball Association [LCNA] battled it out on the world stage. Those five superstars are Emma Mateo and Liesl Hopoate, who represented Tonga; Vilimaina Kagi, who represented Fiji; Unique Pritchard, who represented Samoa; and Charniah Shepherd, who stepped up for the Cook Islands. It is hard to put into words what an amazing achievement it is for those girls, who are part of the LCNA family. I hope the tournament was filled with great memories, both personal and athletic. I have no doubt that the skills they learnt will make a huge difference when they are back in Liverpool colours. Their families, association and community could not be prouder of them all. They are a reflection of the depth of the netballing talent we have in south-west Sydney and the many pathways to sporting success for our young people.
