I congratulate the members and executive committee of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Australia for another successful Deepawali Mela celebration at the Northumberland Street Carpark. Speaker, every year this dedicated organisation transforms a humble Council‑owned carpark in the heart of Liverpool into a vibrant festival ground filled with light, colour and community spirit. It gives local businesses and the community a platform to celebrate a centuries-old tradition and share it with our broader community. The Deepawali Mela truly captures the essence of Diwali, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. With dazzling music, traditional dance, cultural performances, delicious food and retail stalls, the event brings together people of all backgrounds to share in the joy of the occasion. It attracts visitors from across South West Sydney and beyond, and has become a much-loved fixture in Liverpool's community calendar. I thank the organisers, volunteers and performers for their hard work in making this event such a highlight for our city each year. This year, I was pleased to present an award to the 2025 Miss Deepawali Liverpool – a hotly contested title!
