Whitlam Park was alive with the sounds of celebration as the mighty Sporting Rovers Football Club etched its name into the record books with a double victory at the 2025 Football NSW Champion of Champions tournament. Both the under-13 and under‑14 squads lifted the trophy, marking the first time any Rovers team has ever reached, let alone won, a champion of champions final. The under-13s went undefeated through their regular season and finals campaign, defeating Lilli Pilli Football Club in a memorable final. The under‑14s, defending their 2024 Sutherland Shire Football Association premiership, battled through a tense semifinal penalty shootout against Seaforth Football Club before claiming the title with a grand final win over Colo football club, the side that had beaten them a year earlier. I congratulate Sporting Rovers president Kevin George, the executive, the players and the supporters. Our whole community is proud of them. To take home not one but two titles is a phenomenal achievement and a testament to the players, the coaches, the families and everyone at the Southern Districts Football Association who supports local talent.
