Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, our community comes together to shine a light on mental health and the importance of looking out for one another. Too many lives are lost to suicide each year, and behind every number is a family, friend and community forever changed. In Liverpool, we are fortunate to have many services offering support and care. Headspace Liverpool, the South Western Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Service, Liverpool Hospital and Lifeline Macarthur and Western Sydney all provide vital help to people in need. Our schools, community groups and faith organisations also play their part in creating safe spaces where conversations about mental health are welcomed. But suicide prevention is not just about service; it is about people. It is about reaching out and checking in on a neighbour or mate and letting them know they are not alone. Even small acts of kindness and care can give someone hope at a time when they need it most. On this day, let us remind ourselves and each other that help is always available, and no-one has to face their struggles alone.
